Madonna Will Star in Super Bowl Halftime Show (omg!)

Madonna will perform on America's most-watched TV event.

The superstar songstress will be the halftime act during Super Bowl XLVI. Without any great fanfare, Bob Costas made the announcement after his weekly essay on NBC's Sunday Night Football.

That means she's snagged the highest-profile gig imaginable, as last year's game had a record 111 million people tuning in.

Super Bowl XLV Is most-watched TV program in U.S. history

In recent years, the game has booked such classic rock acts as Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The Who. So the 53-year-old Material Girl, who's recording an album for spring release, is just the latest iconic rocker well past her chart-topping days to do the halftime show. The most recent game, however, has the Black Eyed Peas as well as Usher ? and, well, Slash.

Super Bowl XLVI will be Feb. 5 in Indianapolis, airing on NBC.
