The student commons was packed full of attendees ready for a fun night of BINGO at the Globe University-Madison West campus. More than 60 guests showed up to support the Business Communications class benefit which raised $1242 for H.O.P.E.S., a local non-profit that serves to educate the public about suicide prevention.
From start to finish, the students were responsible for the event all while utilizing communication skills they learned in class to make it a success. Students obtained donated items for the silent auction from local businesses, coordinated with their campus communications specialist to market the event and served as the MC, bingo caller, food servers and attendants.
The evening included eight rounds of BINGO, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, food and refreshments for all to enjoy. Attendees were able to donate canned food items as an admission fee which benefited Middleton Outreach Ministry local food pantry.
Student Karen Scheffler was moved by the event, ?I have to admit I was nervous about the turnout, I was nervous about if we could pull it off. It was a few weeks in the making getting donations and I have to admit it exceeded every expectation I had. It was simply awesome.?
Instructor Meredith Beckman couldn?t have been more proud saying, ?They all represented themselves, our class, and Globe University very well that night. I?m very proud of each and every one of them. They not only learned a thing or two about putting on a charity event, they gave back to the community while doing so. They should feel very proud and carry themselves a little taller today!?
